Useless Backups

By themselves, backup procedures are useless. Its the restore procedures that are essential.

"Make sure you practice your restore procedures at least once a year".

Make sure your data is recoverable, before you find out too late, that it isn't.

• Messages of the first two types would be deleted and go no further.
• Messages addressed to invalid email addresses, e.g. bob@ourbusiness.co.nz when you have no Bob, are deleted and go no further

Windows XP Home or Professional?

Despite the name "Home", both versions of Windows XP can be used for business. The primary differences between the Home and Professional editions of Windows XP are:

Windows XP Home Edition:
• Contains limited support for security among multiple users
• Built-in support for peer-to-peer networking, but only for up to five computers
• The back-up utility is not installed, but is included on the CD

Windows XP Professional Edition
• Extended support for security between multiple users of the same computer
• Better support for peer-to-peer networking, plus support for joining a "Windows NT domain".
• The back-up utility is installed
• Additional components useful for network and system administrators, such as Administrative tools, Automated System Recovery and Boot Configuration Manager etc
• Supports multi-processor systems (2 or 4 cpus), dynamic disks and faxing.
