ComputerCare is always watching for new and escalating security threats that could intrude on, damage or infect your IT infrastructure. This notice is a warning that the events listed below constitute a likely threat to your business IT network.
Please take the time to bring this notice to the attention of your staff.
Brief Description: As reported in the media, a new variant of the WannaCry Ransomware virus has been released. Due to some new tricks it has spread rapidly across some major business networks in Europe, Russia and the United States. The impact of this virus can severely cripple business networks.
ComputerCare Actions: The security vulnerability exploited by this virus is the same one patched by Microsoft in March. If you are on a OneCare, TotalCare or CompleteCare agreement your systems have already been patched for this exploit. As an additional layer of security we have overnight deployed a known ‘kill’ switch to managed computers. This kill switch will deactivate the virus if it does manage to find a way onto your network.
What can you do: If you are not a OneCare, TotalCare or CompleteCare managed customer, ensure that all computers on your network are running the latest Windows patches. If you require assistance with this task please contact our support centre who will organise the deployment of updates.
At ComputerCare we work pro-actively to protect your infrastructure but we cannot control what you or your staff do while checking emails or browsing the internet. If you require any security training or think you or your staff have been compromised with any security issue, please call to discuss this sooner rather than later.
Please call the Support Centre or your Account Manager if you are concerned about your risk level.
